Sending Good Vibes – Distant Reiki

Distant Reiki 

When my friend, Tam McGann, first introduced me to Reiki I was very curious.. "what is it? How does it work?" I asked. To feel is to believe, there was no denying this powerful energetic healing experience. She worked with reiki throughout a few massage treatments she gave me and each was different and unique, that was it I was hooked! I had to learn more.

It was so incredible to bring reiki into all aspects of my life, truly a beautiful tool available to everybody. I went on to study and have my Reiki attunements with Tam and we have worked closely together for over a decade strengthening my channel and deepening my connection. 

Here is a very basic overview based on my own experience and focusing mostly on distant reiki treatments, but there is a lot more information out there on the quantum physics of it all and electromagnetic energy. I urge you to delve deeper if this sparks your interest.

How does it work?

A reiki practitioner channels universal (Rei) life force energy (ki) to improve physical and emotional balance. It works on the Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual levels, transferring or being 'drawn in' through the subtle energy body. 

The receiver's higher self conducts this drawing in and the practitioner is an open channel for this to flow through, rather than pushing/ giving their own energetic stores. 

We truly are the creators of our own reality! Understanding our limitless potential is such powerful magic!

Just as our physical body needs nourishment so does our energy body (aura). The physical and energetic bodies are vibrating at different frequencies this is how the physical body is more dense and palpable. The energy body is vibrating at a higher frequency and therefore harder to see with the naked eye, but we can feel it, we know it’s there. 

The energy body (biofield) receives and transmits information, draws energy in and the energy centres (chakras) digest and process this energy to be distributed by the Meridians (energy pathways). Sometimes energy can become blocked or out of balance, this can manifest in any number of ailments or dis-ease in your life.

A second degree reiki practitioner receives an attunement along with 3 sacred symbols, one of which is the “Distance Symbol” this enables the practitioner to activate and tune in to the energy of this symbol to send distant healing across space and time. 

During my training we sent and received Distant Reiki and the effects were mind blowing! I couldn’t believe what was happening. It was incredible, I couldn’t get enough. Since then and probably a lot to do with my gypsy lifestyle of moving to different countries I have been blessed with the opportunity to send reiki to many friends and clients around the world. When they just need the healing but I'm not local it is so incredible that we can still share that sacred space and journey into balance and wellness. I'm so honoured and grateful to be invited into the self healing in these situations. 

How has it helped new mamas?

Here are a couple of examples I'd like to share that have come up recently with friends in the UK, both having similar experiences as new mums with babies around a year old. 

The first friend found herself exhausted, sleep deprived as her little girl just wasn't sleeping much at all, which led to some pressure in her relationship with her husband and just generally feeling depleted physically and energetically. So I've been working with her and her daughter ongoing for a few months, we started out weekly or if needed sometimes a little more frequently to kick start the healing and give her and her little one a good boost and now we've moved into monthly treatments as more of a maintenance. The shift has been incredible she was able to get some sleep, release a lot of tension and improve her relationship with her husband, understand more about the incredible little soul that is her daughter and equip herself with tools and techniques to continue deepening their connection. It was very interesting for me to work with her little toddler too as I would get lots of visual downloads that when I talked to my friend about it they coincided with things that she'd been learning or reading, it was very beautiful to feel that connection. 

The second friend was having a similar experience with her little boy, general lack of sleep and feeling a little out of balance and not quite herself. She had a beautiful experience that really recharged her and allowed her to get some clarity and peace, filled up and ready to handle any challenges that came at her. I loved being part of these journeys and to help these beautiful earth mamas get back to the strong, inspiring, nurturing goddesses that they are. I am just beginning my journey into motherhood about to give birth here in Costa Rica any day now so to reflect and learn from these powerful mamas has been so valuable to me. 

Reiki is beneficial for everyone in a wide variety of situations, but I found it an interesting new dynamic exploring with mamas and toddlers.

How does it feel?

Just like hands on reiki sessions the experience is always different. Sometimes very physical effects, others more of a karmic release from past lives or ancestral blocks, and other times very cleansing, rejuvenating. Always deeply relaxing, we don’t even need to be aware of what or why. 

For some people the effects are even more profound in distant reiki as you can completely surrender comfortably alone in your own home with no inhibitions of having the therapist in the room with you. 

For me as a practitioner I'm guided by my intuition and sometimes I feel in my own body a physical response as guidance. For example, heavy pressure on my heart and chest, tightness down one side of my neck, this doesn't linger or bother me after the treatment it just shows up as a guide.

Once I felt real heat and burning in my right hand around my thumb, I talked to my client after about this and she said she had immediately felt the energy/ heat in her hand where she had recently cut deeply and into the tendon in an accident. There have been many examples of such situations, other times it can be more visual or I feel that a particular chakra is drawing in more energy and we will discuss what this could mean. Maybe the recipient will see particular colours or visions, other times we feel the presence of spirit guides or loved ones that are no longer on the earthly plane. 

The beauty with Reiki is that it will always go where it needs to go and do whatever your higher self needs and that you are ready for at that time, it is gentle and subtle healing that at the very least will leave you feeling deeply relaxed and refreshed or who knows maybe allowing you to fully step into your power and shine bright as the sun in your truest form of pure love!
